Christian Counseling for Trauma

Let’s be real. The Christian worldview is different than the world’s view. And so as a Christian, the sanctity of a healing space must be inclusive of the Savior- the One who made all of this possible. Otherwise, there’s a mismatch- a large elephant in the room. And we can’t have Jesus being an elephant in the room, am I right?

Typical therapy centers “self” and usually comes with the unspoken idea that we can and should fix our own problems. It excludes the Savior completely. But as a Christian, you know there is nothing more redeeming than Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. You know that Christ is the great physician, healing the brokenhearted. In Christ we no longer lead by self but are lead by the Holy Spirit and dependent on Him.

And there is so much more. As Christians our purpose in this life is to glorify God, yet our own sin patterns separate us from him and increase our turmoil.

Here is where it gets interesting. As Christians we cannot truly repent from sin, if we don’t first get to know where, when, how and why the sin pattern developed (i.e. an early childhood trauma), and if we don’t then process and metabolize that trauma at the sin’s root. As believers, oftentimes we unconsciously end up repressing feelings, thoughts, sin patterns and pain, instead of fully repenting from them.

I have worked with a significant number of women navigating the following types of trauma and adverse experiences:

+ religious and/or spiritual trauma and abuse

+ early attachment trauma, including:

+ surviving narcissistic caregivers

+ emotional neglect

+ sexual and/or physical abuse

+ complex trauma and PTSD

+ sexual assault

+ racial trauma and/or discrimination

+ generational trauma

There are several trauma therapies that I offer that are incredible at helping us process the traumas underneath our sin patterns, including IFS, EMDR and general somatic work.

Not only this, but another reason why trauma therapies are so important for believers is because it’s often other’s people’s sins against us (especially early in our lives) that informed our own sin patterns, worldview and relationship with ourselves and God.

This is the space where scripture meets science and where the timeless truth of God’s word combines with trauma treatment to bind up the brokenhearted and reclaim our seat as children of God.

Can I get a witness? Let’s go!
